Half Moon Bay Fishermen's Cooperative Society Limited

Hellshire Beach, Jamaica, is located near Portmore on the South Eastern end of the island and is famous for its fishing, fried fish and festival. It has near white sands with a very small trace of black sand. The beach is conveniently located for the residents of Portmore and weekend visitors from Kingston and all over the island. The fishermen of Hellshire Beach has occupied this space from the 1950’s when fishermen used to walk from all sections of Portmore, Spanish Town and sometimes Kingston to engage in fishing at Hellshire Beach. Ancient fishermen said that in those days it was the Forestry Department who were in charge of the area. In the 1970’s the fishermen formed a fishing association to organize the affairs of the fishermen. It was in those times that the association with the past Prime Minister the Honorable Michael Manley was established.
